Wednesday May 29, 2024
Wednesday May 29, 2024
Are you a leader who cares about employees? I bet no leader answers "no" to this question. But how many leaders DO care, in action? How do they work with employees' mental health and well-being? When is it time to work on that? And how do they measure their results?
I invited Hrefna Sif Jónsdóttir, Managing Director of Tixly, and Helena Jónsdóttir, Founder of Mental ráðgjöf, to discuss how they worked together on Tixly's culture and their employees' mental health.
In this episode, you will learn about:
how to know when it is time to invest in your people's mental health
aligning managerial behaviors across 12 countries where Tixly has employees
common fears of managers about investing into mental health of their team members, and ways to address those
a surprising outcome from creating procedures and guidelines within the company

From Concept to Client: a CEO's Journey to Creating Impact in Mental Health Tech
Wednesday May 22, 2024
Wednesday May 22, 2024
How do you rebuild yourself after a serious injury that challenges your whole identity? How do you decide on your next step as a founder? How do you build something that your clients truly need and will actually use and value? These are some of the questions I discussed with my today's guest, Augusta Klingsten Peytz.
Augusta is the Co-Founder and CEO of the Mental Health Tech start-up Aesel, which offers a SaaS tool for therapists to monitor and visualize the progression of patients. Augusta has a background in venture capital and management consulting. Most recently, she supported a German mental health VC fund and, before that, worked at Boston Consulting Group. Augusta is driven by impact, and Aesel is her 3rd impact start-up. Previously, she founded the Female Leadership Academy - Denmark's largest leadership education for young professionals.
In this episode, you will learn about:
Augusta's discovery of a surprising way to remember who you are after an 8-month recovery journey post-concussion
her eureka moment that led to the birth of Aesel
growing a healthy separation between you as an individual and your startup
what to focus on as an early-stage founder, and what does it mean in practice

If you as a leader are feeling like your business is a bullet train going full speed on tracks you have no control over, stop. Take a breath. And let's talk about what it means to lead teams and organizations in 2024.
Bill Dickinson, a former Roman Catholic priest who left the priesthood to be more authentic as a leader and show up as a whole self which included coming out as a gay man. Through his more than 30 years of leadership experience, Bill has learned about empathy, self-awareness and self-regulation, and is now helping us understand how we can secure our success as leaders in the modern world.
In this episode, you will learn about:
why you can't bypass working on yourself to practice empathy towards others
how can leaders design their teams and work to promote employees' continuous learning
the issues with top leadership that we both decline working with
the ways you can get to know your employees and help them grow
which skills we see as valuable in the near future

Overwhelmed As a Leader? 3D Leadership Framework Is Here To Help You
Wednesday May 08, 2024
Wednesday May 08, 2024
Being a leader is very hard. Managers need to navigate the constantly changing business context with new strategic directives, employee turnover, new technology, etc. Outdated one-size-fits-all approaches to leading, irrespective of the team members' background, group dynamic, and leaders' personal needs and preferences. Conflicting priorities of different stakeholder groups that have to be juggled and combined without any adverse effects on the team's productivity. And as a cherry on the cake, the classical lack of time for leader’s important, yet not urgent tasks.
I developed a simple framework and self-assessment that has been helping my clients and workshop participants to get out of overwhelm for over 3 years now. We break the complex leadership role into three dimensions and examine each of them. You quickly see the patterns - what are your strengths that you are ignoring but can leverage even more instead; which areas actually stress you out, and how can you put intentional effort into improving those.

Wednesday May 01, 2024
Boundaries seems to be a cringy topic for many clients and connections of mine. But it doesn't have to be! Instead of seeing yourself as a harsh, selfish (in a negative way) person if you set and protect your boundaries, you can see them as the way to live the life you desire and deserve. So let's dive into a mindshift that will help you see the boundaries in a new, beautiful light.

Knocking Toxicity Out of Gaming - with Dana Sydorenko
Wednesday Apr 24, 2024
Wednesday Apr 24, 2024
Are online games for losers only? Is it where sociopaths go to hide from real world? You can think what you want of gaming but it is here to stay. I know brilliant and successful entrepreneurs and leaders (including some of my clients) who are gamers in their free time. And today's guest of mine is a fantastic example of a gamer who is successful and valuable in the real world.
Dana Sydorenko, Co-founder and CEO of a social platform for gamers, GameTree, believes that toxicity issues in gaming are not because of the nature of the games, nor is it due to the audience it attracts. Instead, it is a highlight of the issues our society has overall. By making the gaming world feel safer and more inclusive, GameTree can teach individuals, businesses, and our society as a whole how we can tackle these issues.
In this episode, you will learn about:
Dana's learnings from her time as a paramedic in the Ukrainian Army, and how she is using them in her entrepreneurial journey
GameTree's social engineering philosophy and practices that companies can apply for creating inclusive, healthy culture
Dana's recent listing on Forbes' 30Under30 list and what it means to her

Fed Up Looking for That Work-Life Balance? Let's Redefine It
Wednesday Apr 17, 2024
Wednesday Apr 17, 2024
For years, we have been discussing that mysterious work-life balance. Some manage to find it, often through a major crisis or burnout. Others don't resonate with the term and think it is counterintuitive. Yet if this term is so unhelpful, why is it so sticky?
I am a nerd for definitions. And not the dictionary ones, but the ones each of us carry in our subconsciousness, defining the ways we think, act, react, dream, plan... well, do anything. So in this episode, we dive into exploration of the definition of "balance". I offer you a new perspective for this concept, to make it more flexible, playful, realistic, and useful in our everyday realities.

How do we get more women into leadership positions? How can we improve capital distribution in the startup space? We have been asking ourselves these questions for a while now, and many initiatives have been undertaken globally. Yet, since the global pandemic, the gender equality gap has increased again. What are we missing? Where has it gone wrong?
My today's guest, Viroslava Novosylna, has many diverse roles. CEO & Founder of PR agency SLOVA Tech PR, co-founder of the international non-profit community of women in tech Wtech, board member at PRCA, VC/PR Partner at TA Ventures and Ukrainian PR Army co-founder, TechStars Sustainability Paris mentor, and Golden Winner in the category "Best Leader in PR" of Davos Communication Awards 2023. Viroslava has been supporting women in their careers for 6 years now and has valuable insights to share from her experience.
In this episode, you will learn about:
an unexpected outcome with role models within Wtech
three 2-year phases of Wtech's life so far - in "normal" life, during the pandemic, and during the Russian war against Ukraine
how we can make conversations about gender equality more inclusive for men, and why that is crucial for the success
how you can support Ukraine in our battle for a peaceful, independent life

Don't Fill Your Cup First - Do This Instead
Wednesday Apr 03, 2024
Wednesday Apr 03, 2024
You've heard this phrase, "Fill your cup first, before you pour into others." While it points out an essential aspect of well-being, it also does us a disservice. In this episode, I am suggesting an alternative visual to make your self-care practice more sustainable and impactful.

Beyond the Burger: Expanding Your Self-Care Menu
Wednesday Mar 27, 2024
Wednesday Mar 27, 2024
Imagine eating only burgers for the rest of your life. And not only when you are hungry but also when you are thirsty, tired, excited, sleepy, sad, angry, etc. Just. Burgers.
No matter how much you love this dish, you will eventually get fed up with it. Even the juiciest patties and the freshest buns will not bring you joy or satisfaction anymore.
This is what many of us do with our self-care. What is your "self-care burger," aka a "one-thing-fits-all-purposes[-or-not]" crutch?
This episode suggests an easy and fun exercise to add variety to your self-care and make it more easily available even on your busiest days. I use it, my clients love it, even my husband did this exercise! So try it and see some magic unfold.
